6 Tips for an Effective Business Card

Your business card might be the first real introduction that someone gets with your organization. Make that first impression a good one by taking a little extra time to make sure it’s design represents your brand! Create a business card that works for you, whether it be formal, playful, attractive, or a mix of everything!

Here are 6 tips to up your business card game:

1. Keep Important Information Clearly Identifiable

Make sure that when you’re handing out your business card to prospects, recruits, or partners, there’s no doubt about who they need to contact and how.

A typical business cards might include (where applicable):

  • Organization Logo or Name
  • Your name and Title
  • Useful Phone Numbers
  • Email Address
  • Website address

Make this info easy to read and at a legible size so your new connections know who they’re connecting with and how to get in touch!

2. Add a Unique Feature

Business cards are a great place to stand out, and draw attention to your brand!

Consider:

  • Vibrant Colors
  • Rounded Corners
  • Raised Ink
  • Specialty Stock (Textured, Synthetic, Colors)
  • Metallic Foil

…The opportunities are just about endless!

Even if this adds to the cost of your card, the overall cost of business cards is still one of the less expensive ways to promote your brand in a memorable way!

3. Use a Striking Image

Do you have a visually appealing product? Does your business thrive on being recognizable? Add a beautiful product image or professional head shot to your card!

4. Don’t Be Afraid to Play with Humor

Does adding puns, jokes, or a play-on-words fit with your brand image?

Including something fun and humorous on your card can make it more memorable, and it can even encourage your customers to share the joke (and thus your card) with others!

5. Add a Call to Action

Whether it’s a coupon code, a special offer, or just driving traffic to your social media accounts, consider using your business card to encourage the recipient to take action — or at the very least, save it for later when they might need your products or services.

6. With all this considered… Don’t Overload Your Card!

We’ve suggested some potentially flashy ideas here, and as long as they don’t bury your brand, contact info, or message, there’s no harm in spicing things up. But it’s easy to fall into the trap of adding everything and the kitchen sink to your business card, so give yourself permission to just keep it simple and straightforward.
